2008 Flashback. B/W B:4 Series.

Flipping through my Archive today for inspiration and ideas for a new series of paintings. The combination of soaking wet washes and crisp lines is a really fun way to work. The one pictured above is from my MWM B/W B:4 Series. When the weather warms up I'm planning to paint a series of XXL canvases like this in my backyard with lots of splashing paint and funny tools : Brooms, Palette Knives, Windex Bottles, Water VS. Salt, Etc. Stay tuned. Click-Zoom.

The Future of The Internet.

How's that for a bold Blog Post Title? Haha. Unfortunately, I don't have all the answers. But I do have some theories as to how, and why, things will evolve in the near future. So, we all remember MySpace (RIP). It was the first DIY personal webpage builder. Everyone had one. They were for everyone, and especially awesome for bands to share music. It was a Wild-Wild-Web of Interconnectivity and Social Networking. But it was too much at once and got tainted fast. Then Facebook. The clean, friendly, honest (sort of), professional hub of the Social Web. Still for everyone, but more refined. Then services and communities like Behance started to pop up. Very niche. Very specialized. Very easy to meet and interact with everyone in The World that is into the same exact stuff. Oh, you're an Ice Sculptor in Sweden, well now you can sync with an Ice Sculptor in Thailand. Fantastic! Portfolio Networks like Behance exist for ALL niche communities now. That's pretty cool. Small World. Add Flickr, Blogger, Last FM, Tumblr, and Wordpress in the mix. Next comes Twitter. The A-Bomb of "What are you doing now?". Even in it's infancy, Twitter is fascinating on every level. I wont be surprised if in 5 years there are people walking around with camera headbands, mics, and ear buds 24/7 (This will be my cue to move further north into Deep Maine). Anyways, the point of this rant is : Until now, there have been very few attempts to pool all of our individual "Internet Things" into one place. One URL. Today I learned about Flavors.me and within 20 minutes I had MWM360.com up and running. One website with My Twitter Stream, My Blog Feed, My Flickr Pool, and My Facebook Wall. Flavors represents an interesting evolutionary step in the Social Web. Like a spider at dawn, when hundreds of individual strings come together and the web takes shape. Bookmark : MWM360.com

MWM X Design For Chile.

Rocked this poster that reads RESILIENT, in the Chilean flag colors, for my friend Diego's non-profit fundraiser : Design For Chile.
"On February 27th 2010, the people of Chile went through and still endures the consequences of one of the worse earthquakes in human History. In front of this situation, the design community can't remain indifferent. That's how Design for Chile is born. The objective of Design for Chile is, at a first level, to raise funds to be donated to entities that are helping rebuild the country, and also, to unify the different actions and initiatives being made by the design world for Chile. Design for Chile is putting together an exhibition where all donated pieces will be displayed alongside several Chilean design objects and a constant fund raise will be held." Get Involved.

Logo Design : Brown Buffalo.

I recently had the pleasure of working with my friends at Burlington, Vermont's The Brown Buffalo on a Logo Exploration. If you are unfamiliar with their work, you are in for a treat. These guys are the best at what they do. Surf through and see for yourself.

Exponential Technology.

Just got a new camera! A brand new Canon G.11 with 10 mega pixel image integrity. It is amazing to me how rapidly technology is moving, especially when I look at my growing camera collection. Everything is on this crazy exponential curve. It is fascinating, exciting, and even daunting sometimes. Will there be a G.12 in 18 months for the same price and twice the mega pixels? Only time will tell. For now I will enjoy this camera that is twice as good as the one I purchased 18 months ago. Big Thanks to everyone on Twitter who answered my questions and gave me advice on which camera to buy.

Von Mannstein Website.

Last Fall I had the pleasure of working with German Marketing Agency VonMannstein.de on a series of Vectorfunk illustrations they used in their new website and in various print campaigns. The site is now live and looks great. Hit your "Refresh Button" on the homepage to see all five illustrations, and click through the website to see bits of the art come to life in graphs and flourishes.
Two things I really enjoy about this website : The navigation and artwork load fast with laser precision. Flash done right! And the animation of the dudes fencing and weaving around the page is really unique and entertaining. Well done. Thanks Guys!

Free Form Flow.

Spring is finally here! Great to be out there soaking in the sun. I had a lot of fun freestyling this mural today. Lots of the murals I've been painting lately have been pure abstract geometry. So it was fun to switch it up and do something with unpredictable layers and an organic, interlocking flow. Good times. Click-Zoom.
I see this piece as a throwback to the Non-Letterform Style I was pushing a few years back, mixed with the Layering Techniques I explored last summer, and hints of the Geometry Funk I've been rocking lately. Stay tuned for many more murals in this style in Twenty-Ten. It's going to be an exciting Spring and Summer!
