It is with great pleasure that I share the first glance at this awesome collaboration I've done with my friends at DENHAM in Amsterdam. The 'Indigo Byzantine' Spring 2015 Collection debuted at Bread & Butter in Berlin last week. We've decided to wait until the official retail schedule to post all of the different garments that these designs came to life on, for now I share some of my design files that were translated into men's and women's tees, textiles, jacket liners and more. A very fun project with a brand I have always had great respect and admiration for. Truly an honor. Thank you Liam and Co.
Researching Byzantine Patterns inspired the (a)symmetrical Abstract Geometry on these hexy textile designs. The iconic Denham Shears were the foundation for every design I created for this collection.
We proceeded with a 4-color version of this design (*Pictured below on a navy tee) but I wanted to share this 1-color version that I had a good time with. It's always interesting to distill contrast to it's pure essence of light and dark and still be able to achieve a spectrum through pattern and scale. This was a lot of fun to push and pull until it stood up on it's own with just one ink color.
Another example from my exploration phase. In the end this one didn't make the cut, or rather it never made it to the fabric. When putting this one into tile-repeat-mode it reminded me of how much more dynamic 'non-square' patterns can be.
The hexagonal designs have so much more magic on their edge lines, triangles, trapezoids, diamonds, etc. That's the good stuff. Those are the marble floors you gotta just take your shoes off and slip around on!

Subtle differences in the blueprint can make a big difference in the presence of the final pattern.
