Quick Clip : Crystals & Lasers Mural.

BIG Thanks to my friends Laurent, Alexandre, Greg, and Augustin at Since Gallery in Paris. They just sent this video they produced of my process painting the wall across from the gallery to celebrate the opening of my Crystals & Lasers Exhibition (February 2010). This mural was commissioned by the Mayor of the 10th District of Paris and was only a couple blocks from the Monster Wall on the canal I painted last Summer.

XYZ Axis : YES Cincinnati.

MWM XYZ Axis : YES Cincinnati.
Looking forward to my April Residency + Exhibition at YES Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio. I'll be doing a new series of canvas paintings on location for this show, and some big murals around town. This new series will pick up where Parallel Universe and Crystals & Lasers left off, and I have some new spray paint magic tricks and techniques up my sleeve as well. Stay tuned!

5.3.11 UPDATE – FULL PHOTO SET : Process, Canvases, Mural, and Travel Snaps.

Around The Next Corner.

MWM_GraphicsAnother preview from the Geo/Op-Art Series I'm currently working on. Getting nostalgic. Working in this style brings me back to Summer 2004 when I designed Vectorfunk Series #1. My first time doing "artsy" non-functional graphic art on the computer. Prior to that all of my Black & White art was handmade. "Range is conducive to growth." Believe that! It's been a great 7 years.

Grand Slam Elixir.

Grand Slam Elixir.
For the past few weeks we've been making fresh vegetable and fruit juices in our new Power Juicer and I can't say enough good about it. My mind/body are on point. It's fun doing research and experimenting with ingredients. My current favorite is pictured above : Beet, Apples, Carrot, Parsnip, Cucumber, Celery, Lemon, and a fist of Ginger. Loaded with the good stuff and delicious!

Coffee Table Curriculum. Part 10.

Coffee Table Curriculum. Part 10.
Currently perusing : Bauhaus + El Lissitzky + Abstract Art + The Russian Experiment + Swiss Graphic Design + Kandinsky + Cubism. It's refreshing and humbling to study graphic design and fine art from before we were born. Time is the true test. Classics are timeless.

Testing The Mediums.

MWM_Graphics
Doing some test in my lab of different white ink washes on black watercolor paper. Over the years I've learned the importance of experimenting with supplies before diving in. Gotta make sure the paper will dry without wrinkling and not pass dark pigment into the light inks. Once that's confirmed it's a go! I haven't done too much work that builds from dark to light (But I have done a lot of B/W Illustrations). New ideas. Getting loose. Having fun. *This is a photo of a scrap paper test. Good stuff coming soon.

MWM News Blog : Now 60% Bigger!

MWM_Graphics
After 5+ years and over 1200 posts... I've finally cracked the code and figured out a work-around for the image sizes/dimensions on the Google Blogger Platform I use here. Yes! Now I can share BIG images that are 640px wide (instead of 400px wide) and post images that are taller than they are wide without shrinkage (Not possible with previous template). I hope you dig the new layout for future posts. Also surf through my new XX-Large MWM Graphics 2011 Webfolio. Enjoy!

ROJO NOVA : The Film.

The ROJO NOVA Museum takeover from last Summer (São Paulo, Brazil) was all caught on tape, and this fantastic movie just dropped. Featuring behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and lots more good stuff. 75 minutes of pure art fun. More Info. Thanks again David, Museum Crew, and fellow Artists. Good times!

I spent a week painting this Big Blue Mural that went up the Museum stairs and around the corner. Check out some process photos. And click for Zoom. *I highly recommend watching the entire ROJO NOVA Movie full-screen, on your couch, with a bag of popcorn. This is not your regular lunch-break web clip. Enjoy!

Coffee Table Curriculum. Part 9.

Coffee Table Curriculum. Part 9.
Most of my previous bookworm posts have revolved around visual culture. So I've decided to branch out into the other areas that I find interesting and relevant. Today's focus is on Survival and Sustainability. Whether it's a hiking vacation in the backcountry, 3 days without electricity, a week without power and water, or an extended period of catastrophe – These books are packed with "Glad I knew that ahead of time" knowledge. It's horrifying to see disasters like the current Japan Tragedy unfold, so it's reassuring knowing a few small things that can be done in the event of an emergency. Preparedness equals peace of mind.

360° Monochrome Mural.

MWM_Graphics
Just finished this big wrap-around mural in my friend's dining room down in Boston. It was a really fun one to paint!
MWM_Graphics
The design flows around the room and falls behind the windows and trim. Not just a mural. It's a full environment.
MWM_Graphics
Lots of facets and odd perspective in the design. Is it coming towards me? Or away from me? Oh yeah, it's a flat wall!
MWM_Graphics
A really fun process. Thanks again Jon! Glad you dig it.

Grand Canyon Colorway.

Grand Canyon Colorway.
Just got back from my favorite Art Supply Store (Home Depot) with a car full of supplies for my next mural gig : A khaki colored Boston dining room. They originally wanted something hyper-colored but I talked them into this subtle off-tint spectrum of the current wall color. My plan is to create optical illusions with implied shadows and creatively rigged lighting in the space. Wish me luck!

The newest addition to my book collection : How Things Work Vol. I-IV (Not to be confused with the children's book series : How Stuff Works). Originally published in 1900, the copies I got are from a reprint in 1970. Beautifully crafted books and hundreds of awesome illustrations. Great brain food. *Also Check : Part 1–7.

MWM X Tank Theory : Metric.
I've worked with TT a few times over the years. A couple years back I designed the very popular Mountain tee that sold out quick. And way back in 2006 I designed this Sticks & Bricks jam. Always a fun collaboration. Thanks Andrew and Zach!
