With the seasons changing and the temperature dropping I have been getting psyched for this year's installment of my lifelong B/W Bangers Series. This winter will be the 5th Volume (MWM B/W B:5). Lately I've been pondering how I will create the series, what supplies I will use, and what the narrative will be. Tonight I spent some time flipping through my B:2 Archive from 2005/2006 (Yes, the entire B:2 Series was drawn on Gold Certificate Paper. So Legit!) One thing I am planning with B:5 is to make artworks that have the clean, bold, high-contrast look of these B:2 pieces, but also with super clean shades of grey. In B:3 and B:4 I experimented a lot with greyscale watercolor washes, gestural and literally dripping wet. This time around I will bring it back to clean and calculated marks with the greys and hopefully keep the same depth and personal touch. As always, the entire MWM B/W Bangers Series can be viewed in it's entirety at my site, B:1 / B:2 / B:3 / B:4 and I still have a couple copies of B:4 for sale in the MWM Graphics Shop. Stay tuned in the coming months for the evolution of B:5. Click-Zoom.
Vormator: The Elements of Design is a new concept-book published by Zeptonn & Booreiland. 80 designers were asked to create artworks using the same 8 simple shapes. No other elements were allowed, and the results are really amazing. The book is a hardcover 192-pages of designs and commentary from each participant. My "Great Design Does Both" is pictured above, a witty attempt at showing how design can "look good" and "get the message across". Order Vormator Book.
Set Your Style is a great website and online fashion magazine by three gifted and connected stylists/designers from Italy. They cover a wide range of the culture and brands that pioneer the new looks. Thanks guys! MWM/SYS Interview.

Nature is always an easy and honest place to look for inspiration. Over the weekend I filled my camera with photos of various colors and textures from our hike around Acadia's tidal pools and coastline. My plan is to create a massive library of natural textures, and then create an "Organic Vectorfunk" Series of work that incorporates these photos. More on that soon. Click-Zoom for macro-details.
The homies at Format Magazine commissioned me to design their new promo flyer. We went for a clean layout, with shattered vector geometry, and fun colors. In the past two years Format has swiftly become one of the top "Fashion/Kicks/Art/Design/Graffiti/Toys/Music/Culture" Magazines. New issues twice a month, tons of daily updates, and a solid cast of contributors and bloggers. Definitely a "daily visit" website. Hook up a bookmark and stay tuned. Viva Format! Click-Zoom.
Looking through my old photo albums of artwork is bittersweet. I'm glad I documented my work from the past ten years, but most of the images that were too big to scan are sub-par. Pretty much everything I have a photo of from Pre-2k was shot on a FunSaver camera, at a horrible angle to avoid flash burns. Really only good for me to remember the art, no publisher would go near those photos. In the past few years I got better with my archives, but still not good enough. So, a couple of weeks ago I decided to step my game up. I got a snazzy new camera, a tripod, and quality lighting rigs for my studio. From here on out it is going to be pro-quality photos and a proper archive.
