This year My Annual B/W Series On Paper is all about stacking layers. Dozens of layers. Just black or white inks & acrylics. No grey paints, only diluted washes. Working a group of 10 at a time I have been adding new layers to each one every day, cutting back into the dark parts with light and then the next day washing over all of it again with dark ink, letting them dry overnight, and then repeating the cycle. Working like this is very satisfying. It's a game of demo & preserve, finding the most interesting moments within each piece and knocking the rest out. Stacks on stacks. An abstract painting process that imitates the cycle of life, micro & macro, new growth occurring most in areas that are not strong. Pictured here are some very early explorations and a few that feel completed so far. Stay tuned for more.
