Top Ten 2008. The Interweb.

Last year I put together a "Top Ten Artists of 2007" list for Format Mag. This year, I decided to drop my "Ten Favorite Websites of 2008". The Internet is like the Wild-West for information (and misinformation), syndication (and straight jocking), and endless amounts of inspirational, entertaining, and niche content. I definitely spend a fair amount of time surfing around and staying tuned in to art, design, fashion, politics, the world, etc. Here is a list of some of my current favorites that update their content everyday.
PSFK.com - First website I check with my morning coffee.
ffffound.com - Amazing. Go here and hit the "J" key 500 times.
SuperTouchArt.com - Best Art Website. Real opinions.
TheCoolHunter.net - Like reading magazines from 2009.
Juxtapoz.com - Lots of fresh "street-level" Art World news everyday.
Cpluv.com - Design, Illustration, Fashion, Advertising, Branding.
FormatMag.com - Blogs and Interviews with top culture-peneurs.
DesignYouTrust.com - Another great Design/Digital Art Website.
Hypebeast.com - The name says it all. "Street" to "Booshie".
ROJOmagazine.com - Curated magazines, books, galleries.

The 30x30" textile prints from my Revolve LA Solo-Show (August 2008) are now available, and a run of 10 (signed/dated/numbered) beautiful, full-color 20x20" prints for each of the 16 works from the series. Also available are a bunch of MWM "Vectorfunk" prints from 2008, my ROJO book, and MWM B/W B:4. Swing through and check it out. I was interviewed a couple months back by the notorious and knowledgeable crew at Trendy Magazine from Russia. They do a great job of covering the front lines of street-level culture. It is always refreshing to see perspectives and styles from the other side of the globe. Check out the online version of the feature (in Russian). And here is the interview (in English). Thanks guys. Keep rocking!

Interviewed. Behance Magazine.

Behance Magazine recently interviewed me about my work, and the process I go through generating work and staying organized. It was nice fielding questions about my studio practices and process, rather than the usual "Who are you? What do you do? What inspires you?" If you haven't already heard of BEHANCE (Behance.net - Behance.com - Behancemag.com) now would be a good time to tune in. In one year, these guys have developed the most robust, elite, "global creative community" social networking website ever. And it's not just designers and illustrators, there are fashion designers, architects, photographers, motion graphics, and the list goes on. Definitely throw a bookmark on Behance.net for your daily dose of "whoa". Big thanks to the Behance Team. MWM X Behance Magazine Interview.

B:5 Series. Preview 7. Bang!

In 2003 when I started the "Black & White Bangers Series" I wasn't really thinking too far ahead, I was just having fun with it. Honestly, it did not occur to me that the name would make some people think of fireworks, while other people's minds went straight to XXX, and the UK blokes thought of sausages. I picked the name "Bangers" because at the time, my goal was to bang out as many small drawings as I could over the winter months. Since 2003, the monochrome series has become an annual tradition I have kept alive every year, and I plan to continue with a new instalment every winter for the rest of my life. For the last two years I have been trying to phase out the "banger" term and abbreviate each volume of the series to it's simplest title "MWM B/W B:5". But as with all re-branding projects, there is some resistance. Most people who have collected the books all along enjoy calling the series by it's original name. And I can't really blame them, it is more fun to say. Well, either way, this "bang" is for you. Click-Zoom.

MWM B/W B:5 Series. Preview 4.

It is really satisfying doing geometric drawings by hand. Sure, I could have banged this out on the computer in a fraction of the time, but it wouldn't have turned out the same. It wouldn't have the layers of pencil sketches and eraser marks, it wouldn't have the same magic. The B:5 Series is taking over my studio walls. I am already up to 13 pieces, and winter has just begun. I'm not sure if this year's instalment will have the numbers of B:1 (144 drawings), B:2 (92 drawings), B:3 (64 paintings), but hopefully it will be more than B:4 (22 paintings). Time will tell. One thing is for sure, I am having a blast.

2004 Flashback.

There is a mini-feature in CA155 on the 2009 Burton Blunt Snowboard that I did the artwork for. I am psyched to get out there and shred on my design this year. Pray for snow. Big snow!
