Last night Tim Clorius and I had the opening reception for our show Free Form Flow at UMF Gallery in Farmington, Maine. The highlight of the show is this collaborative mural we painted earlier this month where we blended our different abstract spraypaint vocabularies. It was a lot of fun, and a real honor for me to work with Tim once again. He has been a big brother to me for the past 10 years. Lots of local press came through during the install : Portland Press Herald + Lewiston Sun Journal + Franklin County Bulldog + Waterville Sentinel. Tim brought the magic with his painterly three dimensional style and I rocked my organic liquid style.

Simplicity & Complexity.

Winter B/W Series : Work In Progress # 1.

I've been focusing a lot of energy in the past weeks on my annual B/W Series. It's very satisfying to slow down the pace and paint in greyscale. This year is the 7th chapter ( 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 ) and as always I set a few parameters to work within so the series as a whole will stand together well. All of the art will be on 12x18" watercolor paper (white & black). I am using a combination of wet/sloppy techniques and clean/precise illustration styles. Here's a batch of Background Layers drying before they get more action. Thematically I am trying to simplify compositions and get the point across with less details than in previous chapters. Aesthetically I am experimenting with unique ways of creating depth like these dot grids.

My friends at Lamono Magazine (Barcelona) interviewed me about my explorations in different disciplines, inspirations, community, projects in fashion & functional design, and long term plans. They asked for a website background tile to accompany the feature so I sent them this hyper "Mediterranean Magic" mosaic from my Pattern Archive. *The english Verbatim Interview appears in grey below translation.
