I'm all moved in at my new painting studio and have been working away on this new series of circle canvases for the Round Trip Group Exhibition at Flatcolor Gallery in Seattle. The show opens on August 4th. Gonna be a good one! Here's a sneak peek at one of the five canvases I am working on. And pictured below is a "Work-In-Progress" shot of the early layering phase.
Stay tuned for more process shots and a slew of other projects I've got cooking in my new lab.
Honored to be featured in this new Depthcore Chapter XLII that revolves around the theme Obsolete. Some truly amazing work from artists and designers around the globe (check the Archive too). Here's a quick Interview explaining my process creating the piece I've included in this chapter. Cheers to these guys for building the killer new website. Well done!
I recently worked with a cool Brooklyn Yoga Studio called Urban Asanas on an exploration that resulted in a new ornate logo crest (Bottom right with Ganesh). Some key points addressed : flow, energy, symmetry, and an overall uplifting vibe. Designing logos and branding is one of my favorite Graphic Design disciplines. Check out my Logo Archive. Need a revamp? Starting a new venture? Say Hello.
Now Available In The MWM Online Store! This year's installment of my annual monochrome painting series : Micro & Macro Mandalas. The 5 prints are 12"x12" and each is signed/numbered/shrink-wrapped and shipped flat. $115 for the set. Enjoy!
Really mixed it up on this series. Started out with wet washes of white ink on black watercolor paper and then refined the forms with intricate illustrative details. My favorite and most detailed B/W series yet.
View X-Large Previews of each : ONE + TWO + THREE + FOUR + FIVE.
Here's a "Process Shot" after the first sloppy layer of white ink washes. ZOOM.
And here's the final result after many, many hours of detailing and refining. ZOOM.
The prints fit perfectly into these nifty 12" record frames. Rotate them in one frame or display the whole set.
Check out my past B/W Paintings and stay tuned for future efforts. It's a lifelong series :)
"Opening on 1st of July 2011, Scotland's Recoat Gallery will host the UK's first comprehensive "Graffuturism" Exhibition titled "Rudimentary Perfection". The exhibition pulls together an impressive group of notable international artists linked by their innovative spirit & shared graffiti heritage. The project has been heralded as one of the finest of its kind to take place anywhere in the world this year. Each of these artists has ventured down unique paths in their post graffiti output & each offers a radical take on expressive, figurative & letter-based abstraction. These works, while differing in approach & execution retain the sense of movement, assured marks & imperfect beauty of graffiti itself. SheOne | Duncan Jago | Jaybo Monk | Matt W. Moore | Augustine Kofie | Nawer | Morten Andersen | Poesia | Derm | Mark Lyken."
Holy smokes this is amazing. Must see! OFFF Barcelona 2011 Main Titles. Produced By : PostPanic. Watch Full-screen. (Catch me at the 5:08 mark.) Crazy! *Also Watch This Clip (at the 22:20 mark) of OFFF 2011 broadcast on Spanish TV. Super talents of The World. Good times!
This was a huge honor to work on! BIG UP Magazine # 10 : The Influencers & Tastemakers Issue. Hyper detailed mandala with the title nestled into one of the rings and the "10" vibrating (like it's in a bass tube). Also managed to get a mysty infinity loop to encompass the logo and center ring (like 2 records being mixed). Lots of fun. I also have a nice Q&A Feature in this issue. Big Thanks to Katya & Crew!
