Geometry Grandiose : Friday, May 7th.

MWM : Geometry GrandioseFore River GalleryInfo & RSVP.

On Repeat : Recent Pattern Tiles.

I've had some really fun projects in the past year that required me to wrap my head around creating patterns that tile forever, essentially allowing them to be printed on a never ending roll of textile. Here are a few of my favorites. The one above is probably my favorite pattern I've ever created. It took weeks to get it just right.
The Halftone Honeycomb. Just one ink color. Cool, right?
This one was part of the Ray Ban exploration. Go-Go Green.
Op-Art tribute to Aztec weavings. 2 colors. Easier said than done.
Scrambled Mosaic of half-squares. It's tough to find the seam, No?
Another favorite. My logo twisted into a web of Geometry. Enjoy!

Candy Paint : Reone X Lerk.

Great times today rocking on this Mural Collaboration with my longtime friend LERK, one of Maine's most versatile and innovative graffiti cats. It was a true collaboration, and a true freestyle. No sketches, no plans, no "Me here, You there" mentality. We literally built this Mega-Mural from the ground up, on the fly, and each left our signature styles throughout. Stay tuned for many more jams like this from our crew this Summer. Two minds are better than one. Click-Zoom. Enjoy!

Wired 18.05 : Illustration Process.

I recently had the pleasure of working with the Great Folks at WIRED Magazine on this B/W Editorial Illustration for their article "Every Day They Rewrite The Book". I've scanned the art and article big so you can read it here. Essentially it is about how Kindle eBooks can be updated/revised after you've purchased them. Kinda awesome. Kinda scary, No? The Future is ~ Different. Click-Zoom. *Also check out my past work with Wired : 17.08 Full-Pager & Various 2008 Jams.
V1 : Occasionally I like to share a Behind-The-Scenes look at the evolution of a piece that underwent considerable revisions, and became much stronger thanks to a great Art Director. Above is my first shot at the visual narrative of the story (Read it and it will make more sense). I was psyched with it, but it just kept getting better!
V2 : More "Flowy Info", Less cluttered, Less boxy, More like my 2007 Sticks & Bricks piece that was referenced. Kindle centered with Skeleton Key. Bulls Eye more prominent. Getting better...
V3 : Ever more action and implied "Info" zigging and zagging through. Wider and more fluffed out, but not boxed in. Hinting at 3D in some spots and portraying some frequencies getting into the Kindle while others don't make it in. Even got a nice big Arrow in there. It's a wrap! Thanks Margaret & Co. Huge honor, as always. Click-Zoom.

PSFK Conference Animation.

My great friends over at PSFK used the cover art I designed for their Good Ideas for 2010 Book as the primary graphics for their NYC Conference on Friday. Especially fun is this 30 second animation of the graphics that was projected mega big between speakers. It is exciting for me to see my vector artwork brought to life like this.
I expect to be doing many more projects like this in the near future. Guess it's time to brush up on After Effects and Flash. Woohoo.
*Also check out the Poster I designed for PSFK NYC 2009.

MWM X Ray Ban X NYC : Live Mural.

I never, never, ever, ever, thought I'd be painting a mural here. Whoa!
Long day of painting. My first sunburn of 2010. The first day of Q2 ;)
More people saw my art each hour than in all of my Gallery Exhibitions combined. Tens of thousands of curious tourists and New Yorkers. Lots of fun. It's always great to hear people's impression of my work, and explain my process. This was my most fun "Live Painting Event" yet. They even had a Body Guard and fancy velvet rope for me. Haha.
Here's the final mural. Click-Zoom. *Time-lapse Video soon. Thanks to the DJ for blending inspirational classic Rap jams.

MWM X Ray Ban X NYC : Locations.

The Sunglass Hut Retail Stores in New York City are celebrating this collaboration with instore and mega exterior signage and vinyl wraps. Pictured above is the Soho location. Here's a map of all of them. The new 5th Ave Store will open next week in full force as well. Awesome!
Herald Square. Two floors. *Site of Live Mural Event : Next post.
Time's Square. This was a trip for me to see in person. Ten years ago I'd spend days in that Virgin Megastore listening to new rap albums on their headphone walls. Now my art is across the street, and it is a Forever 21 Store. Oh, the irony of it all. Haha.

MWM X Ray Ban : Wayfarer Shades.

After 8 months of designing, refining, prototyping, and executing.. I am VERY pleased to share with you : MWM X Ray Ban Rare Prints Wayfarers :) There are a bunch of different parts of this collaboration, so the following posts will explain. Pictured above is the Poster/Print Ad I designed to celebrate the shades.
The lead style from the 3 model series. Party time! Excellent!
We went through two dozen different patterns and colorways before reaching this full color Hyper-Geometry jam. Everyone is really psyched with them. They've been selling out of stores already. Summer Twenty-Ten is a serious thing.
Here's a more incognito style with the graphic on the inside of the frames. Wild things happening in your peripheral, low-key on the outside. Rayban Wayfarers are so classic! Big UP to the good folks at Cutwater SF and Luxottica Italy. This is a dream collaboration, and everything was executed flawlessly. Thanks!
