I've got a full-spread typography illustration in the new Computer Arts Projects Magazine. The article is about working as a designer in the videogame industry (which I've never done, but I am open to it). I've always said I'd rather be designing something for fun than playing video games, I guess there's a way to do both. Sign me up! Click-Zoom.

Logo Design. Dress Code.
I recently had the pleasure of working with Dress Code, a Tucson, Arizona fashion boutique on their logo redesign. Pictured above are the results of the exploration phase. We were going for a range of marks that exemplified the energy and diversity of todays hybrid styles, from Punk to Posh. (*Keepers: 1, 5, 9) Sometimes people think designing a logo is easy, it must only take an hour or two, Right? Wrong. Although the final single mark that you see is usually quite simple (and hopefully memorable and timeless), there is an iceberg of sketching, concepting, and exploring that takes place prior to reaching the final mark. Lots of designers say that logos are the hardest part of their job. I am the polar opposite, identity work is my favorite. Bring it on! Click-Zoom.

MWM X Blood Is The New Black S/S 09.
A little camera phone sneak-peek at 1/4 of the MWM X BITNB Series that will hit retailers this spring. Blood Is the New Black is legit.
MWM X Ludwig S/S 09.
Ludwig has been one of my favorite lines for the past couple seasons. Thoughtful, clean, and powerful designs mixed with wearable, forward-thinking cuts and materials. It was an honor to collaborate on graphics with them last summer. I especially enjoyed working on this "Maze Design" that cleverly says "Ludwig Van The Man". Good times! Available in March at your favorite boutique. Click-Zoom.

Cyber-Savvy. JPG Prefixes.
I've decided to start a new series of posts in which I will share some ideas and insight for fellow illustrators/designers/artists. This first morsel seems like a no-brainer, but somehow the majority of webfolio builders overlook it. These days, Art Directors all across the globe are constantly scouring the web and pulling images that resonate with them and their clients objectives. Then, they end up with folders with hundreds of awesome images (your images) and they make a "mood-board" to sell the aesthetic to their client. Then the client picks a direction, and it is the AD's job to either A) Hire You, or B) Copy you, or C) Pass it to their Design Team to copy you. Hopefully they go with "A" :) But what then? Have faith that they will be able to remember your name? They have hundreds of images by hundreds of artists in a folder on their desktop. And most of the images have funny names like "6543sde2210.jpg" or "summerbluepainting.jpg". Simple advice, prefix your images with your name, or studio name. Heck, prefix it with your phone number. Something... Anything... To give your hard work a fighting chance. Being on a their mood-board is the first hurdle. Being on their speed-dial is next. (*Kudos to Dropular for ~maintaining JPG prefixes. It's a bummer that ffffound hasn't figured this out yet.)

Vector Versatility.
Sometimes I feel prospective clients forget that I can do "less crazy" and "more realistic" renderings in vectors. Sure, I specialize in doing wild jams of saturated color and optical illusions, but I am equally capable of doing refined, accurate illustrations. For real, throw me a project for an engine block illo or vector city skyline or assembly instructions for furniture. Whatevs. It is on these projects that I feel most challenged, and the most personal growth. Thanks in advance :) Click-Zoom.

Tree Life Poster.
"TreeLife by The Cool Hunter. A public interactive outdoor exhibition of cutting-edge tree houses designed by the world’s top architects, designers and artists."I recently had the pleasure of working with the good folks at TheCoolHunter.net on this poster that will support their upcoming events. I had a ton of fun designing it. Snuck T.R.E.E.L.I.F.E. into the design on the mysty tip, added a ladder, stairs, windows, chimney, etc. and kept the overall vibe really digi-funk. More news soon on the event. Tree houses rock! Good times. Click-Zoom.
Preventive Measures.
This is my new bueno-elixir. 1 part carrot juice to 2 parts fresh orange juice. It looks like a glass of OSHA Orange paint, packs some serious vitamins, and tastes great. At this time of year, everyone has their answer to the looming plague. Kombucha, Garlic, Zinc, Ginger, etc. Trust me on this one, this mix rules. (*Grey Goose optional).

Sunday Session.
It's always a welcomed treat to catch a 39° day up here in (7 months of death-grip-winter) Maine. After snowboarding for the past couple months in 0-15°, today felt like June. It was super windy, and the paint was flowing funny, but I had a blast rocking out on this mandala.
Big up to the homies for talking me into getting out to the wall. Purple knuckles, purple boogers. Good times! Click-Zoom.
